Tours can be reserved by telephone 00386 31 645 937 and over email: info@td-sempeter.si<\/span><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Almost 2,000 years ago, an immensely important\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/old.td-sempeter.si\/en\/znamenitosti\/rimska-cesta\">Roman road<\/a>\u00a0was passing through \u0160empeter, connecting Roman towns Aquilea, Emona, Celeia and Poetovio (sl. Oglej\u2013Ljubljana\u2013Celje\u2013Ptuj). Many powerful Roman patricians lived nearby and some were buried in the tombs of the Roman Necropolis in \u0160empeter.<\/p>\n<h2>Important monument of the Roman era<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/old.td-sempeter.si\/en\/znamenitosti\/zgodovina\">discovery of the Necropolis<\/a>\u00a0happened quite coincidentally in 1952, when works in an orchard revealed a statue of a sitting woman. Few years after the excavation, the beautifully preserved archaeological site Roman Necropolis in \u0160empeter was opened. It is still seen as one of the\u00a0<strong>most important remains from the Roman era<\/strong>\u00a0in Slovenia and in Central Europe. The Roman Necropolis is an open-air museum in which\u00a0<strong>works of art of most skilled Roman craftsmen<\/strong>\u00a0are exhibited.<\/p>\n<h2>Magnificent tombs<\/h2>\n<p>After the Roman Necropolis had been discovered,<strong>\u00a0more than 600 items<\/strong>\u00a0were found and\u00a0<strong>over 100 family tombs<\/strong>\u00a0excavated. The most beautiful tombs are the large tombs made of Pohorje marble, ornamented with the high-relief statues of the buried families. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/old.td-sempeter.si\/en\/znamenitosti\/grobnica-spektacijev\">Spectatius family tomb<\/a>\u00a0is the largest and is covered with reliefs of four seasons. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/old.td-sempeter.si\/en\/znamenitosti\/grobnica-enijcev\">Ennius family tomb<\/a>\u00a0is said to be the most beautiful and depicts the mythical scene of Europe\u2019s abduction.
